Sophie post #2: pgs. 1-61

Some interesting quotes, figurative language, and words that I found in this week's reading are: The nose of my seat bit into my shoulder as the toe clip scraped the back of my thigh. (pg. 1), "I hear those things are a lot easier if you ride them instead of letting them ride you." (pg. 2), Short for  "bane of my existence and one-time best friend.'' pg. 4, The fans droned heavily behind me. (pg. 7), ...she just camoflauged commands inside queries. (pg. 9), Mom shot him a Don't encourage the boy look. (pg. 11), "I don't remember, Mom. One of the Stan countries maybe?" (pg. 13), ...as if I was someone he wanted to fire rather then a kid. (pg. 16), "And this whole Seattle story? Not making you look too hot." (pg. 22), ...the tang of chemicals.... (pg. 28), ...staring at the two men like they were a traffic accident on the freeway. I couldn't look away. (pg. 28), "I am helping," he said. "I'm providing much-needed clarity into the messy domestic situations of your troubled household." (pg. 33), "We're going to whole distance, Dave," Win said cooly. (pg. 38), "Funny how we sort of turn into our fathers..." (pg. 45), "...with mom crying enough for two sets of parents." (pg. 52).
Some thoughts and questions I had while reading this section of the book are: Why is Chris so fed up with Win?, The way Chris talks about Win behind his back is similar to the way he talks to Win., and If Chris hates school why does he try so hard?

  1. Sophie I really enjoyed the quotes you put on your post and I thought you pretty much picked the best ones in the book. I thought the same thing about Chris and how he thought about Win. I think you did a great job and covered the best parts of page 1 through 61! ;)
