Some interesting quotes I read in this final part of the book were: Win certainly, to quote my mother, had made an impression on this girl. (pg. 185), "Eagle! Get up!" (pg. 190), "Think this is what they call basking." (pg. 192), Finishing was a sure thing now. (pg. 194), "The Mountainus goatus is a unique species, known for its keen appetite for automotive fluids. Some attribute its longevity to the pickling properties of these agents. And isn't this one a beaut?" (pg. 195), I felt like, well like distance. (pg. 197), Sometimes it pays to be a skinny guy. (pg. 200), Everybody was protecting Win. (pg. 203), "I guess there's that Space Needle thing." (pg. 206), "This is way cooler than the auto goat." (pg. 207), "Take that you rabid little intestine eating bastard!" (pg. 209), "You'll catch up," he said, adding, "Someday." (pg. 210), The anger crept into my voice unbidden. (pg. 214), "The talk's enough when you hear it for as long as I have. I had to get someplace where his wasn't the only voice I heard inside my head. Someplace I could figure out who I was." (pg. 218), "Now you and I both know that when you change as much as we have, when you've proved that you're more than everybody thought you were, you can't go back to the place you started. You've outgrown it all. The place, everybody's expectation...yourself." (pg. 220), "I wanted you to know I didn't use you." (pg. 221), I caught myself thinking that Win would have liked this place. (pg. 226), "Apple or cherry?" "Both," I said. "Good man." (pg. 230), I made friends with a little kid who's mom was scarier than Win's dad. (pg. 237), "Hell, maybe I'm just bored." (pg. 240), "You smell like crap, Collins." (pg. 241), I didn't need those pictures in my hands or on my wall to know that. And I didn't need Win, either. But it was good knowing they'd be there when I wanted a reminder. Both of them. (pg. 245).
Some thoughts I had while reading this section of the book were: Why did Win leave at such an awful time?, I'm really glad that Win is happy and is living with Morgan and Effie.
My thought on the end of the book was not a positive one. I am not at all happy of how the book turned out. To be honest, I was hoping Ward would find Win dead, and that Chris would have to set out on another bike trip across America to find out what happened to Win, why he died, and what he was doing with so much money. I was very disappointed that a book with so much lead up simply ended with a flash drive and a happily ever after.
